Monkeying Around at Estepona’s Play Parks

There is, perhaps, nothing quite as important in a kids’ day than the opportunity to play. It’s how they learn, it’s how they grow, it’s how they become the best versions of themselves. Luckily for you, Estepona has plenty of dedicated play parks where they can monkey around, so that you can easily bring play into your kids’ daily routine!

The Importance of Play

Kids need playtime to physically grow and strengthen their bodies, regulate their mental health, improve their social and emotional skills, and naturally and effectively learn and practice problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, communication, experimentation and more. In short -and without exaggeration, play is absolutely critical to your kids’ health, happiness, and well-being, both short and long-term. Being a great parent then, means giving your kids as much time to play as possible. But how? The answer to that is actually not that important at all! Kids are natural experts at play, so ample time and space to play is really all they need to reap the benefits of it. The question then, isn’t so much how to give your kids space to play, but where?

Kids Play Parks in Estepona, Costa del Sol

Estepona is extremely family-friendly and as such there are plenty of dedicated playgrounds and parks where your kids can play. Parque del Calvario, located at the top of the town centre, has a beautiful green space and stunning fountain as well as a dedicated kids play park that’s great for slightly older kids, complete with climbing frames, slides and more. Parque de los Niños is another great option for kids play in Estepona town. Located on a grassy slope about 10 minutes walking uphill from Estepona port and next to the Las Mesas sports centre, the Parque de los Niños has a small structured play area and lots of natural grassy zones for kids to play freely. It’s also well lit for evening fun and the views towards the sea are quite spectacular.

Another beautiful green space in Estepona is the Parque del Orquidario, a grassy knoll with lovely fountains in the heart of Estepona old town surrounded by shops and cafes -perfect for a quick play break when out and about in Estepona town. Or pop into Parque Huerta Nueva in the new part of Estepona town for a well-shaded oasis with paths, fountains and manicured gardens.

Just beyond Estepona city limits you can also find the small but lovely Parque del Seghers next to the Playa del Cristo to the west or the much larger Parque Los Pedregales to the east, a 30-hectare camping venue with full facilities, barbecue and picnic space, and Romeria destination for San Isidro. It also boasts a necropolis and museum (with gift shop) and a fun kids playground area that includes a small zip line. It’s a fantastic day trip for the whole family, especially in the warmer or dryer months of the year.

Winter however, even on the Costa del Sol, can be too cold, too wet, or simply too unpredictable to venture out to the wonderful open air play parks that Estepona has. But that doesn’t mean you can’t give your kids their important playtime!
