Local Charities In Support of Children and Their Families

Mundo Manía is all about kids! As the coast’s biggest and best kids play centre, we love bringing fun and happiness to kids with our indoor play facilities, magical water park, kids’ trampoline park, multi-use sports pitches, incredible events, the best birthday parties, and more –but we also know that there are many local children who are in dire need of other things to bring a smile to their face.

From everyday necessities like hot water and healthy meals to toys that bring joy to an otherwise sad day, to much-needed holidays or respite for children and their families fighting dangerous and life-altering diseases and more, there are multitudes of ways you can help make the Costa del Sol a happy place for children. If you are looking to make a difference in the lives of children this year, keep an eye on these local charities:

ASPANDEM (www.aspandem.org) provides individualized attention, help -including assessment, and support for children and adults with disabilities. Their mission is to “normalize the living conditions of people with disabilities regardless of the type, degree of affect, and age, taking into account their wishes, self-determination, and aspirations.” If you are looking to beautify your garden this year, visit the Aspandem garden centre in La Campana or the Aspandem stall at San Pedro’s Thursday market to purchase your plants. All monies from sales go to this non-profit organization. There is also a local Aspandem charity shop in San Pedro that will gladly accept your donations for resale.

Butterfly Children (Debra) is a national charity dedicated to providing help and specialized support to children with Ediermolysis Bullosa (EB), a genetic condition that causes the skin the blister with a mere touch, causing severely painful open wounds that requires lifelong medical care. Debra typically hosts multiple gala events, golf tournaments, and other fundraising events throughout the year but they also have a local respite centre and charity shop in Marbella that welcomes donations of all kinds to help raise much-needed funds to cover medical treatments and specialized equipment that children with EB need, as well as continue on-going research into ways to make EB children’s lives easier and better. Find out more at their website: www.pieldemariposa.es

Ciudad de los Niños is a centre, on-site residence, and school for disadvantaged children, including orphans or those removed from parental custody. They always have a need for food and other necessities that the children need for school and daily living, and gifts of toys and games are always appreciated, too, to help make the children’s lives better. Local appeals and charity events and fundraisers occur throughout the year. Learn more, start your own campaign for Malaga orphans, or organize a gift donation by contacting Brother Juan Correra at director@cnmalaga.com

Collective Calling works locally and internationally to improve the emergency needs of families by offering meals, clothes, and other necessities for underprivileged and homeless families. On the Costa del Sol, this includes providing daily meals for over 150 families every month. Donations of food are ongoing and greatly appreciated, and can be made by contacting info@collectivecalling.org who can arrange for a no-contact pick-up.

Cudeca specializes in providing free medical care for people, including children, with cancer. Visit their website (www.cudeca.org/en) to make a donation, or sign up to volunteer to directly assist patients or make a difference by volunteering at one of their many charity shops along the coast. Charity events are always on-going throughout the year, too, to raise much-needed funds. And if you have your own business, placing a Cudeca charity tin where your customers can see it and make a small donation is greatly appreciated, too.

Fundación Fuerte, run by the Fuerte Group Hotels, supports a range of charities and charitable programmes that support the children, teenagers, and their families who are at risk of social exclusion or lack necessities or cultural inclusion. Follow their facebook page (www.facebook.com/fundacionfuerte) for a multitude of worthy events and appeals you can get involved in to make a difference in the lives of children along the Costa del Sol and beyond.

Global Gift Foundation runs Casa Global Gift, a day center in Marbella for children with special needs. They offer therapy, rehabilitation, workshops, and leisure programmes to improve the lives of local children. Make a donation to this incredible organization by visiting www.casaglobalgift.org/en/donations and keep an eye out for gala events and fundraisers that support this worthy kid-focused charity.

Horizonte (www.horizonteproyectohombremarbella.com), based in Marbella, is a non-profit organization that helps children, teens, and adults overcome addiction and emotional difficulties. They hold an annual golf tournament and other smaller fundraising events throughout the year, which you can attend to help support this important cause.

Los Claveles was created specifically to help finance the purchase of radiotherapy equipment at the Costa del Sol hospital so that many of the estimated 6,000 cancer patients in Andalucía that require treatment every year don’t need to travel as far as Malaga. Their goal is to raise 4 million euros. To find out what you can do to help them achieve it, contact Marion Winter on 952 863 926.

Mundo Manía is currently closed but we hope to reopen soon once local governmental authorities give us permission to do so. Over the years we have supported many local charities by running charity and kids events, and donating monies from entry fees and stalls.

Supporting our local community is something that is of great importance to us and we look forward to being able to run more events in 2021. Until then please keep pledging where you can. Every little helps. And we look forward to welcoming you back to our much loved kids play centre in Estepona in the New Year!
